We're Selling E-Books!

This is an exciting time for publishing. What people read, why they read, where they read, how they read--it's all changing. Publishing is the act of making content public. It is not only the process of printing and binding books, though, as I've said before, I believe printed books are brilliant technology in and of themselves that will continue to exist for many years to come. Yet, I don't think it will be long before printed books become a subsidiary market to other primary publishing options.

Earlier this year we started an initiative to start selling electronic copies of our books. Our first point of entry to the e-book arena is to release content for Amazon's Kindle reader. As of this post Cumberland House has 63 books available in the Kindle store, and we are adding 1-2 books a day. Earlier this week we got our first sales report from Amazon. We're selling e-books! We're certainly have a ways to go but I am very proud of our team.
With 83 shopping days 'til Christmas, Santa will have to start saving about $5 a day from now until then to slip a new Kindle in my stocking. I have a feeling unless or until the price gets below $200 it probably isn't going to happen . . .

Hi Paul,

After reading your blog about kindle, I looked up one of my books published by Cumberland House and sure enough, Amazon has it listed as a "kindle book." Thanks for putting it on.
